Ambrosia

21 January, 2015 | Hungarian | By: Mrs Z

This very authentic Hungarian restaurant is located on the ground floor of an office building that was formerly occupied by Viva Barcelona / Viva Fernando.  According to the owner (Joe); he has completely renovated it from top to bottom and though it really wasn’t much in terms of atmosphere (a bit on the dark side); the food was like none other!!!

The entrees are all very Hungarian; with some unusual dishes which we’d never heard of before.  In addition, there are a few American items (burgers, steaks and pastas) should you not be into Hungarian.  I would encourage / urge you to try the Weiner Schnitzel though!!!  OMG – the absolute best we’ve ever had.  It was fork-tender and didn’t really need any type of gravy (though we did have a side of paprikash gravy for dipping) and the portions are huge (no exaggeration – the schnitzel hung over the sides of the plate).  I had the SMALL order of the Weiner Schnitzel / Stuffed Cabbage combo which came with a choice of salad and side.  I chose the cucumber salad, which truly was unbelievably good.  As my side, I went for the dumplings which were delicious.  The stuffed cabbage was just ok – I didn’t enjoy it enough to order it again though.  This SMALL entrée really was enough for two people.  Mr. Z wasn’t quite as adventurous; ordering just the Weiner Schnitzel, mashed potatoes and a garden salad.  His only complaint was that the mashed potatoes were very bland with no taste at all.

Our server, Chastity, was awesome; as was her “trainee”, Crystal.  Both women were really personable, knowledgeable and extremely attentive.   For sure a “2 thumbs up”!!!  We’re really looking forward to going back to Ambrosia (and maybe sharing a dish next time)!
