Imperial Wok
Initially, we were a bit skeptical to try this place since every time we passed it, it looked like it was no longer in business, (which we discovered was due to the mirrored windows), however it looked like it had lots of promise, so I was pleased to see a nice write-up about it in the Taste section of the Plain Dealer one day. I read the article and then checked out their menu on their website and was even more excited. It was unusually crowded on the Tuesday night that we were there, but it seemed like most were neighborhood folks who had been there before. It reminded us very much of P.F. Chang’s in that it had more of a ‘bistro-like’ atmosphere, but the menu was a cross between your typical Chinese favorites, Chef’s specials and several unique-sounding dishes. Since they had a really large sushi menu, I decided to try that and while I wasn’t disappointed, neither was I impressed. Mr. Z decided to play it safe and have their chicken chowmein, which he said was very good with huge chunks of white-meat chicken rather than the little diced pieces you generally get with chowmein. Their eggrolls were very good (a bit TOO crispy though) and their wonton soup was very much like most places, if even a little bland. I have to say that their $$ are definitely higher than most of your neighborhood Chinese restaurants and we honestly couldn’t find any reason to justify the higher prices; but overall we enjoyed it and would definitely go back and try other dishes (but no more sushi)!
