The Merchant Tavern

13 October, 2017 | Pub, Sports Bar | By: Mrs Z

AWESOME place and definitely bigger and better inside than it appears from the parking lot.  At first glance, one would think that they only had your typical bar food…..burgers, wings, etc., and while they do have a nice selection of those, they have quite an extensive and diverse menu; the chef (not ‘cook’) is very […]

Tres Potrillos

3 March, 2016 | Mexican | By: Mrs Z

Another outstanding discovery!  While we both enjoy Mexican food, we’ve basically stuck to our neighborhood place, which is outstanding, serving the typical Mexican dishes that you’d find most everywhere (though prepared better than most).  Tres Potrillos was a true ‘step above’, both in their menu choices and the setting.  Most Mexican restaurants are “cute” and […]

Wasabi Steak & Sushi

8 September, 2014 | Japanese | By: Mrs Z

The general assumption is that all Japanese Steak Houses are created equal; and for the most part, that’s correct.  Generally the menu items are the same and even the prices, but if you visit enough of them, you may come to have your favorites.  While Wasabi Japanese Steak & Sushi was ‘good’, it was pretty […]

Edgar’s Restaurant

1 August, 2013 | Bistro, Fine Dining, Traditional / American, Wine Bar / Small Plates | By: Mrs Z

This place was absolutely phenomenal and quite an “accidental surprise”!  Knowing that we were going to be running some errands in an area that we weren’t too familiar with, Mr. Z had pre-selected two different choices prior to us heading out.  Once we had finished our errands, he put the first address in the GPS […]

3 Point

12 June, 2012 | Fine Dining, Italian | By: Mrs Z

Akron never fails to amaze with it’s wide variety of really interesting restaurants, and this was definitely a “find”.  Located right across the street from the Akron Museum of Art, one would never have guessed that behind an unassuming storefront, was this neat little art-deco type place.  Much larger inside than it appeared from the […]

Lockview

17 January, 2012 | Sports Bar | By: Mr Z

A definite “MELT – wannabe” and in some ways, better!  The schtick here is gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches, with a huge variety of add-ons.  Though the menu is not as extensive as Melt and the offerings are considerably smaller in portion, outstanding flavor combinations with what else….. CHEESE as the staple.  Amazing beer selection (anything […]

Bricco Pub

23 August, 2011 | Italian, Sports Bar | By: Mrs Z

We ended up here by default – the original place in that location was no longer in business.  This was a scaled down, less formal version of Bricco Italian Café in Fairlawn.  Interesting bar-type menu – good burger and pizza, and a nice patio, but no reason to go back.

Larry’s Main Entrance

19 April, 2011 | Sports Bar | By: Mr Z

A good old-fashioned neighborhood bar…… “lightly breaded fish” was NOT (breaded LIGHTLY) but the burgers were ok.  Since it a little far from home, don’t think ti was worth the trip enough to go back.

Papa Joe’s/Iacomini’s

1 December, 2009 | Italian, Steak / Seafood, Traditional / American | By: Mr Z

An outstanding place – and huge!!  The menu was really big, offering everything from Italian dishes and steaks, to seafood. The service was excellent as well.  It was a little pricey, but was a perfect “special-occasion” place to go.

Crave

6 January, 2009 | Bistro, Steak / Seafood | By: Mr Z

A very cool, contemporary little bistro in downtown Akron.  Packed to capacity for a Tuesday, yet the service was exceptional.  The food was excellent and Mr. Z said “one of the best steaks he’s ever had”.  A major feat since he’s very particular about his steak!
