Edgar’s Restaurant

1 August, 2013 | Bistro, Fine Dining, Traditional / American, Wine Bar / Small Plates | By: Mrs Z

This place was absolutely phenomenal and quite an “accidental surprise”!  Knowing that we were going to be running some errands in an area that we weren’t too familiar with, Mr. Z had pre-selected two different choices prior to us heading out.  Once we had finished our errands, he put the first address in the GPS and as we got closer, we weren’t getting great vibes!  A bad area, together with the fact that there were no other cars in the parking lot didn’t give us a good feeling.  So we decided that since there was a number two choice, we’d give that a try and hope for the best so the next address went into the GPS.  We drove and we drove and with each mile things just kept looking worse and worse.  We were at a stop sign in the middle of what looked to be a totally residential area when the GPS lady told us we had “arrived at our destination”.  We thought her internal satellite had totally “shorted-out”, but alas, as we looked over the hill up ahead of us we saw a beautiful golf course and in the front was an awning with “Edgar’s Restaurant” written across it.  Things only got better from that point on.  At first, we thought it was just the golf course restaurant, but eventually learned that the golf course is a public, city course and that the restaurant is completely separate, having nothing to do with the city or the course.

The inside was just beautiful and we were greeted warmly by Mary, the hostess.  We had noticed that there was a patio / deck overlooking the course so we asked if we could sit outside!  OMG – what a gorgeous view it was.  Unlike other places that have patios or decks, the outside seating area was just as nicely appointed and comfortable as the inside seemed to be.  As we looked over the menus, we were surprised at how extensive it was and how many different and unique items were offered.  Our wonderful server, Craig, was very helpful in answering questions and making suggestions.  Since it was so late and I didn’t want anything too heavy, I decided on the jerk chicken salad!  WOW – it was truly enough for 3 people and came with at least a full pound of chicken and tons of perfect avocado slices.  The dressing was a citrus lime vinaigrette which was perfect with the jerk chicken.  Outstanding – but even I wasn’t able to finish it all.  Mr. Z had the fried chicken, which was served with house-made mashed potatoes and fresh green beans.  It may sound boring, but I was assured it was not – he said it was delicious.

During the course of our visit, both Craig and Mary would stop by our table to chat or make sure there was nothing we needed.  I can’t say enough about Edgar’s!  Though this was our first time there, we were made to feel like we had been weekly regulars for years!  It won’t be our only visit; that’s for sure!  Two thumbs up and multiple stars for Edgar’s Restaurant.
