Sainato’s Restaurant
Wow, when we finally found this place, we weren’t sure it was safe to park the car in front. It’s located in what looked like an abandoned warehouse/industrial area, but once inside we were pleasantly surprised to see that not only was it still in business, but the side that we sat on looked recently remodeled. There were two separate sides to the place – the Sainato’s side was more like a market and takeout, but there were a few tables in there, though nobody was seated there. We went over to the other side which was called (Riverwood Tavern). It seemed that they were owned by the same place, but two distinctly different kinds of places. Looked more like the after-work crowd (not sure WHERE they worked though) dropping by for a drink on their way home. The menu seemed to be more sandwiches, pizza and typical bar food. We shared a large meatball and ricotta calzone and each ordered a small (4 small slices) pizza. I had a veggie pizza which was just okay. Sort of dry and not much flavor, since it had no red sauce on it. He had just plain sauce and cheese and said it had a good flavor, but wasn’t outstanding. The calzone was very tasty with lots of cheese (both ricotta and mozzarella), but very doughy. Again, everything was okay but nothing I’d go back for. The service was average, especially considering there was only one other occupied table in there and a few bar patrons. Seriously, it was better than expected, but can’t think of a reason to ever go back.
