Henry’s at the Barn

16 September, 2008 | Fine Dining, Steak / Seafood, Traditional / American | By: Mr Z

A VERY cool place with an awesome menu – very different and unusual.  A bit on the pricey side ($30 fried chicken – but excellent).  It was warm and friendly, with outstanding service. UPDATE:  Henry’s at the Barn is closed and in that location now is STRIP (see post)

River Styx Grille

2 September, 2008 | Bistro, Traditional / American | By: Mr Z

Everything was very good, but the service was a little slow (not a good sign for a Tuesday night).  Considering that it’s a golf course grille, we felt it was a bit overpriced for what is offered.

Green Island

This place was just ok.  I think that their big claim to fame was that used only organic or locally-grown ingredients, and while that’s good and admirable, I think they forgot the seasoning and spices!  Everything was very bland and tasteless (and we tried several things).  The service was just average as well.

Clubhouse Grille

This has been so many things since the old “Cooker” closed several years ago.  They had a good menu and decent food, but nothing worth going back for.  Update – since our original visit, there have been at least 5 other restaurants in this location and it is currently empty!

Boulevard Blue

13 May, 2008 | Bistro, Mediterranean, Steak / Seafood, Traditional / American | By: Mrs Z

This place was phenomenal and absolutely packed – surprising for a Tuesday night.  Nevertheless, the service was excellent; the atmosphere wonderful and the menu selection was pretty extensive.  They have a pretty diverse menu and both entrees (a chicken dish and a seafood dish) were very good.  Reasonable prices, but tough to find a parking spot […]

Eddie’s Creekside

22 April, 2008 | Italian, Pizza, Traditional / American | By: Mr Z

This place is really awesome.  A really nice menu featuring some of everything.  We tried their pizza (excellent), as well as a pecan-crusted chicken, which while it was very tasty, had a little too MUCH pecan crust on it (the chicken was lost).  The service was prompt and friendly and the prices were mid-range. UPDATE:  […]

Vhooda

Located in the old Cooker location right on Bagley Road, they have totally remodeled the interior (unrecognizable).  We got off to a bad start, but after the initial issues and a chat with the manager, we ended up with a couple of pretty good burgers!!  They do have a more extensive menu than that, but for […]

Pipers III

18 March, 2008 | Traditional / American | By: Mr Z

Everything was just “okay”.  Reminiscent of the restaurants of the old days (was probably once considered “fine dining”).  Very traditional menu; nothing too exciting but of decent quality.  The atmosphere was also somewhat old and needed an update (windowless and pretty dingy inside), but overall it was okay.  Would we go back……..not likely!

Player’s on Madison

26 February, 2008 | Bistro, Fine Dining, Traditional / American | By: Mrs Z

We really enjoyed this place.  Everything was really good – both the food and service.  The menu has a large variety of really interesting-sounding dishes, along with some more typical items.  The atmosphere was really neat and they’ve got a cool little patio in the front (not appropriate for this weather though).  Would highly recommend it.

Jackie’s Casual Cuisine

Oh my goodness!  This place was the former Chester’s up on the hill off of Rockside Road.  There just aren’t enough NEGATIVE adjectives to describe this place.  They hadn’t been open for business that long, but this a case where if you don’t know what you’re doing or aren’t “ready” – don’t open!!!  The service […]
