Dante’s County Line Saloon

I just happened to read (unfortunately after the fact) an on-line review of this place that said “…formerly a dive bar….”!!!  FORMERLY ????  This place gives new meaning to the “dive” in DIVE BAR!!!  For those of you who might frequent this particular bar, I’ll apologize in advance (but only half-heartedly) since this may be  one of the most disgusting bars we’ve ever been in and we’ve been in our fair share.  The decor can only be described as Early American BAR, with the only thing contributing to the “atmosphere” being the overly-loud music.  The one lone woman working there served as the bartender, waitress and probably the cook and dishwasher as well.  Considering the small place was pretty crowded – at the bar only – she did fair job of taking care of us.  Obviously, this was a seat-yourself kind of place and we had no problem with that since the only other people in there were either at the bar or out on the small patio.  It took longer than it should to get a couple of menus, but honestly, they could have just listed the few items they offered on a small chalkboard, alongside the “daily special” which happened to be $1.25 Tacos this night.  Since there weren’t too many things to choose from, we ordered a Philly Cheesesteak and a “Tavern” burger (which they billed as “Gourmet”) and were going to share.  I also asked for sweet-potato fries with mine.  After what seemed like a ridiculously long time (I mean seriously – it’s not like anyone else was eating anything), we finally got our orders!  OMG – almost wish we hadn’t!  The cheesesteak was served on a microwaved hotdog bun, but even the chewy bun wasn’t as bad as what was in there.  It was supposed to have “grilled peppers and onions” but there was no trace of either.  The meat (assuming it really was) was so overcooked that it was inedible.  The “gourmet tavern burger” was so awful that we didn’t even finish it.  It had a horrible taste to it and was gritty and dry.  Seriously not sure it was beef at all.  Finally, the regular fries were plain old frozen, crinkle-cut fries, and the sweet-potato fries were burned to the point of being black (and I believe there was actually a $2.00 upcharge for them)!

Overall, this place was horrible!  I think the only thing that kept us from complaining was the fact that we were pretty sure that nobody would care or do anything about it and we just wanted to get the heck out of there.  The upside to this little adventure was that we had driven by here many times over the years and always assumed it was closed, so our curiosity was satisfied.  If you’re looking for a decent burger or tasty bar food, then it SHOULD be closed!  If all you want is bottled beer, then you’re probably safe.
