Ferris Steak House

25 July, 2012 | Steak / Seafood | By: Mrs Z

I can’t believe that after all these years in Cleveland, and as long as this place has been around – we’d never heard of it, much less been there.  But as luck would have it and almost by default, we ended up there lastnight!  It doesn’t really look very inviting from the outside, and the neighborhood (at least that particular block) is a little questionable, but once inside we remarked that it looked like an old New York City steakhouse.  Much bigger inside that it appeared from outside and our hostess / server was absolutely WONDERFUL.  She was personable, knowledgable and had a great sense of humor.  We assumed that she’d been there for many years, but in fact had only been there a little more than a year.  The menu was mainly steak (many different cuts and sizes) but there were several seafood items, as well as a chicken and a pork chop entree.  It was a nice menu with several appetizers (potato pancakes were excellent), sides and desserts.  Their prices were comparable to Hyde Park or Morton’s (although unlike the a la carte pricing of these places, this did include a salad and potato).  The only real negative was that the quality of their steaks didn’t really warrant the $$$$.  The entrees we chose were the petite filet (6 oz.) and the tenderloin tips with mushrooms and onions.  Both were ordered medium and they “appeared” to be prepared as ordered, but both were somewhat dry and grainy-tasting.  The funny thing is that it didn’t really matter.  It was such a fun experience and our server was so great, that we happily ate our meals and when we left, told her that we’d see her again when they moved to the new Rocky River location in October….and we meant it!
