Gunselman’s Tavern
We were really anxious to find out more about this place that was awarded first place in CLEVELAND’S BEST BURGER contest and consequently, Mr. Z had to agree (almost) with their dubious honor! They did, indeed, have an outstanding burger (he still thinks the place we typically go when we want a great burger is better, but since they’re a bit out of the area, we figured they might not even have been in the running)! In any case, Gunselman’s burger with swiss cheese, mushrooms and grilled onions was amazing!
Gunselman’s is basically a neighborhood bar, but since the music inside was blaring (way too loud) and it was such a nice night, we sat on their wonderful patio. Nice tables and the service outside was at least as good as it would have been inside. We also learned that Tuesday night is “Taco Tuesday”, featuring $5.00 Street tacos (chicken or beef) and $5.00 Margaritas! Well, tempted as I was to try the tacos, I saw that one of the menu items was a Lobster Roll (Maine style) which I don’t usually see on too many menus, so I had to go with that instead. It had tons of large chunks of lobster and was served on a nicely crisped baguette, and while it was very good, I was a little disappointed. I expected it to have more flavor than it did and some of those large lobster chunks were a little rubbery. Both of our meals came with fresh cut fries that were REALLY good – very crispy and not greasy at all. I mentioned that the margaritas were also $5.00, so being a big fan, I had to try one!! Generally, when any place discounts their drinks, they usually water them down a little…..NOT SO with this margarita!!! In fact, I think they doubled (or tripled ☹) the amount of tequila and served it in a 10 oz. tumbler!!! Needless to say, it was really delicious but extremely potent (at least for me); however, if you can hold your alcohol better than I can; it’s a REAL bargain (if you like margaritas).
We would absolutely go back to Gunselman’s since there were several menu items that sounded really good and somewhat unique, but I’m vowing right now (not at all in a negative way though)…..I’ll NEVER drink one of their margaritas again!!!!
