Lager & Vine

2 April, 2014 | Bistro | By: Mrs Z

I’m not sure I know the difference between a Gastropub and a Bistro; but from what I have read; this place falls under the category of a “Gastropub”!!!  Their Medina location is relatively new (they also have a Hudson store), so we were pleasantly surprised to see that something new had opened relatively close to home.  On this Tuesday, the place was pretty empty, with a few stragglers coming in during the 90 minutes we were there.  They have a nice bar area, so the majority of their traffic headed in that direction.

The menu is really diverse with a little something that would suit just about anyone, regardless of how discerning they are.   Mr. Z had the special this night which was beer-battered cod filets and while that doesn’t sound too exciting or out of the ordinary; let me tell you these were the ABSOLUTE best fish filets I’ve ever tasted (and I’m from Florida)!  Big thick tasty white cod VERY lightly coated in a crunch beer batter.  Unbelievable!!!  I had their lobster bisque; which was very tasty though a little on the watery side (not sure I’d call it bisque), but at least there was a decent amount of lobster meat.  With that, I tried their braised pork soft tacos (2) which were just “ok”.  The shredded pork was said to have been braised in beer for 24 hours (it had sort of an odd flavor to it) and was mixed in with an avocado ‘sauce’ and grilled corn, covered with melted cheese and wrapped in a soft tortilla shell.  It wasn’t bad; it just wasn’t something that I’d ever order again.

Overall, we liked this place and would go back.  Word of warning – though the food is good; the service is really slow.   I could understand the slow service on a busy Friday or Saturday night, but a Tuesday night when they were basically empty….not good!

Lager & Vine is located at 108 Public Square, Medina, OH.
