Los 4 Amigos

6 March, 2015 | Mexican | By: Mrs Z

We may never have tried this neighborhood Mexican place had a friend not sworn it’s the best, most authentic Mexican food he’s ever had (and we trust his taste)!  So on one of those nights where we got a late start and just didn’t feel like driving too far; we literally turned a couple of corners and there we were!

It was pretty empty on this night, so we were hoping that wasn’t a clue that we were making a mistake, but since we have found most places to be less crowded on Tuesday nights than any other night of the week (which is the reason we chose Tuesday nights for our weekly adventures), we weren’t overly concerned.

Needless to say, the service was great.  We were greeted with a basket of tortilla chips and not only salsa (which wasn’t as good as the salsa at our usual Mexican place), but some kind of white sauce/dip!  We didn’t have a clue what it was, so I was the one to try it first – it was really good, but unusual.  It wasn’t thick, like the Queso dip and it wasn’t overly spicy.  Regardless, it was delicious and was gone by the end of our meal.  In order to fairly compare this place to the one we usually go, Mr. Z had to try the chicken fajitas; which he said were delicious – tons of chicken, onions and peppers!  I had something that I don’t usually have – Pollo a la Crema (chicken in a cream sauce with onions and peppers).  While it was good, it didn’t have a lot of flavor to it, so I’m not sure that my craving for Mexican food was completely satisfied.  Overall, it was really good and we’re glad that we tried it.  Would it, could it ever replace our usual place – doubtful.

Note: As we were leaving, I did ask the server what that ‘white sauce’ was and best I could understand, it was a mix of cream cheese, poblano peppers and garlic (I think it leaned more towards garlic, since it wasn’t really spicy at all).
