Mama Fu’s Asian House
A very interesting place and very empty, even for a Tuesday night. They have only been open at this location (the only location in Ohio as of this date) since January and you would think that being basically IN a mall, they’d be a little more crowded, but perhaps they do a really good lunchtime business. We were greeted immediately by the hostess / server (the ONLY server on this night) and were asked if we wanted “gluten-free or vegan….”. Being a little confused, we said we just wanted a regular menu (hoping there was such a thing) and were seated at a booth and given menus. The menu was actually pretty extensive, with many appetizers, soups, etc. Unfortunately, the only soup we would have considered was the wonton, which they were out of (?).
The basic idea of this place is to pick your “preparation”, then you select your “protein” (beef, pork, chicken or shrimp) if desired. You can choose either noodles or rice (a couple different kinds of both). Some of the dishes are “bowls” while others are served in the typical fashion. A little confusing at first, but we finally figured it out.
We started with a pork roll appetizer – the large order, which consisted of 4 rolls sliced in half (too much for the 2 of us). They were tasty, though very greasy. For our entrees, I ordered the Pad Thai bowl and Mr. Z had the Mongolian Chicken. I’ve had Pad Thai many times in many different places and this was probably the least exciting I’ve had. It had basically no taste at all and was pretty bland. Mr. Z’s Mongolian Chicken, however, was actually pretty good. Just the right amount of kick to it and the chicken was tender.
The service was just so-so. I guess that considering there were only 2 other people in there, it should have been better, but at least our server seemed pleasant enough. Overall, I’m not sure that we’d go out of our way to return since there was nothing at all remarkable about it. If we want Chinese food, we have a couple of other (closer) places that we’d go and as for “Asian” (and if we felt like driving to Legacy Village), Stir Fry would be our top choice.
Give it a try though – you may feel differently. Mama Fu’s Asian House is located at:
