Mission BBQ
I have to admit that when I found out we were going to another BBQ place, I didn’t get terribly excited, but WOW…… this wasn’t just your average BBQ joint! Probably the coolest thing about Mission BBQ is the backstory – why it was founded and by whom! Please visit their website to read their story.
In any case, when we walked in we were immediately greeted by one of the folks behind the counter. Their menu was up above and spanned the entire width of the restaurant. They definitely have a more extensive menu than just bbq chicken and pork. All of the items, whether entrees or sides, are done right there on the premises (in plain sight of the patrons) and NOTHING is microwaved! We each had the pulled chicken dinner which came with a side. Mr. Z had fresh cut fries and I had the cheesy potatoes, but added country-style green beans. The portions were huge (much larger than any other bbq place we’d ever been) and were absolutely delicious. Whichever meat is chosen comes out sauce-less but each table has a variety of 6 different sauces you can then add (or mix them up). A description of each is provided so you don’t end up dousing your delicious chicken with 6 alarm sauce (when you hate anything spicy). They offer a couple different beers (cans) and the prices were really reasonable.
Even though you order your food and pay up-front, there are team members walking around constantly asking if you need anything or if they can answer any questions, or just to chat…..which we ended up doing with Kara, the General Manager (we didn’t know what role she played until we were getting ready to leave). They have two locations right here in NE Ohio (the other is in Canton) but there are quite a few across the U.S. Seriously, I can’t say enough great things about Mission BBQ……a great backstory, great people and fabulous food!!!!
