Pizza by Robert

15 October, 2012 | Pizza | By: Mrs Z

It never fails to amaze me how VERY many pizza joints profess to have “authentic New York pizza”, yet I’m willing to bet that many (though certainly not all…..) have never been to NY and never even tasted NY pizza.  Believe it or not, it is VERY hard to recreate since ‘it’s all in the crust’, and the water used has a lot to do with how that crust comes out.  In any case, Pizza by Robert was NOT ‘authentic New York pizza’ and to our disappointment, not even really great ‘Ohio pizza’, but then as we’ve learned…..pizza (like bluejeans) is a very personal thing and what one person absolutely raves about; another wouldn’t take a second bite of.  Thus was our experience with Robert’s pizza.  The take-out traffic was non-stop though, so obviously it has a large following.  Even though there were a couple of tables in this little space, it is geared more for take out/delivery but since we’d driven 40 minutes to get there, we certainly weren’t ‘taking out’, so we opted to eat in.  I guess not too many folks do that because not only do they not bring ANYTHING to the table, all of ‘tableware’ is paper and their utensils are plastic.  There was no salt, pepper or grated cheese on either of the tables and when we asked if they had any grated cheese, we were given 2 little (and I mean tiny) packets of generic grated parmesean.  Maybe it’s because we were NOT recognizable ‘regulars’, but we really didn’t “feel the warmth” in the short time we were there.  As I said, there seemed to be an abundance of people out there who just love this pizza……..but we weren’t two of them!
