Southeast Gears and Cheers
Being avid bikers as we are, it’s hard to believe that this place has been open since June of 2012 and this is the first time we’ve been in to check it out. Had we not been out to Southeast Harley Davidson recently, I’m not sure we’d even have known about it. In any case, we figured that a weeknight during the “off season” would be a good time to check it out.
We had been given the impression that it was an “upscale” (?) restaurant and grille, but at first glance, we could tell it was pretty much just another sports bar, at least from an appearance point of view. It was new and bright and shiny and definitely spotless, but we didn’t notice anything that would fall under the “upscale” heading. Their menu, however, was really interesting and amazingly varied. They offered the typical bar items (wings, burgers, nachos, sandwiches, etc.) but in addition there were some unique-sounding things such as the ‘asparagus crescents’ which consisted of several grilled asparagus spears, wrapped in a thin sheet of dough and baked (very good). The menu was way too extensive to mention everything, but the pulled BBQ chicken was very tasty, as was the ½ baked chicken (also BBQ). Probably the only thing that was really lacking was the dinner salad and while that may not mean a thing to some folks, it’s MAJOR to me! It looked really appetizing, and I’m not sure if it was the lettuce or the dressing or maybe one of the ingredients in it, but it had a really odd ( = unpleasant ) taste; almost like gasoline (not that I’ve TASTED gasoline). Thankfully, that wasn’t a deal-breaker and we’re looking forward to going back and trying some of the other things on their menu! Last, but certainly not least, our server, Kaley, was phenomenal. She was friendly and super-helpful in describing some of the dishes! Thanks Kaley!
