Square 22

It’s always exciting when a new restaurant comes to our area; particularly given what (and who) we knew about what went into making Square 22 a reality.  Though it is a most welcome addition to the area; we are keeping our fingers crossed that since they’ve only been open a few weeks, the coming days/weeks helps them to perfect some of the menu items, which we found to be somewhat disappointing.

Since we were with a group, we had a chance to see (and taste) several of the items on the menu, both appetizers and entrees.  One of the great things about Square 22 is that the atmosphere is very warm and welcoming (albeit a little loud, so if you’re looking for an quiet, conversational dining experience….this may not be the place) and the menu offers everything from burgers and flatbreads to filet mignon and Chilean sea bass; so there really is something for everyone.

As an appetizer, the Prosciutto Wrapped Dates were ordered, which I thought were delicious.  Our (the entire table) issue with that choice was when asked, our server said it was enough for the table “to share”.  There were 6 of us and 5 dates – not even enough for everyone to have 1 !!!!!  The Farm Beet Salad was also a little misleading.  One of our friends ordered it, thinking it was what it said….a BEET salad.  The reality was it was a spinach salad with a few very small cubes of beets scattered on top.  Though nobody at our table ordered it; I was wondering about the Grilled Broccoli Caesar salad….in the description it doesn’t mention BROCCOLI at all……….hmmmmm!  Moving on – Mr. Z ordered the Coleman Farms Half Chicken and though he did finish it; he said (and verified with one of our tablemates) that it was so salty, it was almost inedible – another disappointment.  I decided on the Blackened Fish Tacos and though I can’t say that I didn’t like them; I wouldn’t order them again.  There were 3 small soft flour tortillas with some coleslaw and a nice sized piece of blackened whitefish on top of each – no accompaniments – for $15.99.  I felt that was a little overpriced for what was offered.  Had it been grouper, halibut or salmon, then it may have warranted the price, and it may just be MY opinion, but…………..

Overall, we are still pleased with the addition of Square 22 and we’ll give them a chance to work out some of the kinks (just our opinion) and we’ll give them another try!
