Wolfey’s Bistro and Pub
While there really isn’t anything earth-shatteringly negative to say about this neat little sports bar; I can’t honestly give it two thumbs up either. On a positive note, we were surprised at how much nicer it was on the inside than it appeared when we first drove up. Light, bright and cheerful on a pretty gloomy day. OK, so that’s a plus! Our server was friendly and energetic and was trying hard to do a good job, but….that’s where the kudos stop (an explanation to follow). The menu was pretty much typical sports bar fare – burgers, sandwiches, salads and wings, with a few entrees thrown in. Nothing terribly creative though. We played it safe and ordered a turkey wrap and the chicken quesadillas. Since it was still within the “Happy Hour” timeframe and it was pretty crowded, we decided to start with an order of deep fried pretzels to hold us over until our food came. Additionally (and this is the “explanation” I promised) we both ordered small dinner salads. Our server made it a point (twice) to ask us if we wanted them BEFORE our meals and both times we told her that we did. So….. the deep-fried pretzels arrived (which BTW were very good) and then within mere seconds the salads came and before we even had a chance to put the dressing on them, our meals arrived. Now in a ‘fine dining’ establishment, this would probably not have happened and if it did, would be totally unacceptable, but since this was just a sports bar and I’m guessing they aren’t trained in such things, I wasn’t surprised – just annoyed. Why would she have made it such a point to ASK if they had no intention of following through. With the exception of the pretzels (go figure), nothing we ordered was above average. Funny thing – when Mr. Z ordered the turkey wrap, she asked him if he wanted it hot or cold. He specified ‘cold’ and when it arrived, it was SO cold, it was bordering on frozen. My chicken quesadillas were just ‘ok’. I’ve had them many places and these ranked somewhere in the bottom 5.
Overall, the only thing that would cause us to return there was if we just happened to be in the area (which is unlikely) and it was the only place open!
