Jammy Buggars
So MANY amazing dishes at this cool little ‘place’! It’s way too cool to be called a bar, but not exactly a white-tablecloth restaurant either! Definitely a PUB! We were sort of blown away that they have been there for 3 years and not only had we never been before, but we’d never even heard of them! You can be sure that we’ll be spreading the word now!
Located right on the corner of Detroit (and a sidestreet?), it’s hard to miss this neat little establishment (but we have many times before, to our disappointment). They were surprisingly busy for a bad-weather Tuesday night, and I would imagine that they are packed on the weekends. It’s a very long, narrow place, but they have a surprising amount of tables, without it feeling overly-crowded. Their menu leans more towards sandwiches and salads, but there were several yummy-sounding entrees on there as well, which I’m anxious to try next time we visit.
This being our first visit, we played it safe and just ordered sandwiches. I had the New England Lobster and Shrimp roll, which was outstanding. If I had to say anything negative at all, it was that the little shrimp were cold. Maybe that was the way it was supposed to be served, but in spite of that, it was really good. Mr. Z had the “Jammy Hammy Sammy”! OMG – never could have we imagined a ham and cheese sandwich being that awesome – 3 kinds of ham and 4 different cheeses made up this amazing sandwich, served on grilled sourdough! It was one of the best sandwiches we’d ever tasted (yes, I got to taste it before it was gone)! Even their fries were a step above the ordinary. We couldn’t put our finger on it, but they were fresh, crispy and not at all greasy! Who would have thought that a sandwich and fries could have left our mouths watering for more!
FOR SURE a place to try if you haven’t already! We will certainly be going back!
