Gandalph’s Pub & Restaurant
Gandalph’s Pub & Restaurant has recently moved into the location that was formerly occupied by Riverstone (which has relocated to the corner of Marks Road and 303 – Drug Mart Shopping Center) and being in a really neat OLD building, we had high hopes that it would measure up to the same level as Riverstone had come to be known for; however…..just didn’t happen! Now maybe there is still a chance that they will make some much-needed changes, but unless they do, we won’t be going back.
In looking at their menu on-line, I was very optimistic, but I guess that goes to show you that you can’t necessarily judge a book by it’s cover. Their ‘theme’ seems to be Irish, but having had the traditional Boxty at many other places, we weren’t prepared for a Boxty to be served as just one flat potato pancake with some dry pieces of chicken and crumbled bacon on top with a side of what looked like chicken gravy! What happened to the sour cream and applesauce (she did bring a small side of sour cream, but said they didn’t have applesauce). Overall, it was less than satisfying and totally overpriced for what was presented. That was Mr. Z’s meal. I ordered a spinach salad with chicken and chose a white balsamic vinaigrette as my dressing. She came back and said they were out of that dressing (seriously….at 5:30 pm on a Tuesday), so my other options were just your basic ones (which I’m sure were mass-produced and not very exciting). My salad was just “ok” (barely) and also was very pricey in comparison to other places where I’ve ordered an entrée salad. There just wasn’t anything creative or exciting to it.
All that being said; it’s doubtful we’d have any reason to go back to Gandalph’s and are pretty disappointed for the folks that lost Riverstone, only to have this take it’s place.
