Caribbean Cowboy

4 November, 2014 | Sports Bar | By: Mrs Z

While not necessarily bad, we just couldn’t get overly excited about this place.  Having operated under MANY other names before the birth of “Caribbean Cowboy” (under the same ownership each time); we got the impression that the owners are grasping for something that will be unique enough to finally yield some success, but we’re just not sure this is it.

Granted, the décor is totally updated and refreshed, and looks newer and more modern.  The kitchen seemed to be a little disorganized which confused us  since there weren’t that many patrons on this night.  The menu was pretty extensive and definitely tried to mix the “cowboy” with the “Caribbean”.  I decided to try the fried green tomato appetizer and a spinach salad.  The salad was enough for two people and pretty good, but it was the dressing that won me over.  It is their house dressing which is a mix of  sweet & sour and garlic!  As our server tried to tell me; it’s impossible to describe except to say….it was really good.  Without it, the salad would have been just another typical spinach salad.  I was a little disappointed with the fried green tomatoes though.  The description led me to believe that it would be enough to share (‘layers’ of lightly breaded and fried green tomatoes…..).  It turned out to be 2 slices with some ricotta cheese in between.  It was tasty, but definitely not worth $10.  Mr. Z had the salmon, which he said was really good (2 thumbs up there), but it’s accompaniments were bland and forgettable (the baked potato was ice cold).

In any case, we’d put CC  in the ‘sufficient’ category – not “avoid at all costs”, but nothing to write home about or worth a second trip (at least not for us).  Besides, we’re not big Country-Western fans!
