New Orleans Showboat

30 March, 2010 | Traditional / American | By: Mrs Z

Very bizarre and unappealing décor; the service was horribly slow and everything in the place was disorganized.  Sadly the food didn’t even save the evening.  The concept was sort of cool, but they just couldn’t seem to pull it off.

Austin’s Smokin Steakhouse

19 January, 2010 | Sports Bar, Traditional / American | By: Mrs Z

This was a typical steak, ribs, BBQ joint. The ribs were pretty good (not the BEST we’ve ever had, but good), but the brisket was excellent.  Essential to any place with ribs and chicken is the BBQ sauce and their’s was average to good.

Papa Joe’s/Iacomini’s

1 December, 2009 | Italian, Steak / Seafood, Traditional / American | By: Mr Z

An outstanding place – and huge!!  The menu was really big, offering everything from Italian dishes and steaks, to seafood. The service was excellent as well.  It was a little pricey, but was a perfect “special-occasion” place to go.

Dianna’s Deli

Just a good, dependable family type diner. Food was okay, there was no ‘atmosphere’ to speak of, but traditional fare with some homemade soups, etc.  Nothing really memorable.

Madd Chef

A new place in Brunswick, which is not known for an abundance of really nice restaurants (or ANY restaurants except fast food).  This was surprisingly good with an interesting menu, however somewhat expensive for that setting and location.  The chef personally made his rounds to each table and was very friendly and welcoming.  Only complaint – […]

Via Van Aken

10 February, 2009 | Mediterranean, Traditional / American | By: Mrs Z

We can’t even remember what we ordered or how it was because this was truly the worst restaurant experience we’ve ever had.  From the minute we walked in (with a reservation) and were ignored for at least 30 minutes; then finally seated and seriously – completely overlooked until we had to practically grab a server’s […]

Sara’s Place

20 January, 2009 | Bistro, Traditional / American | By: Mr Z

Neat little place with an interesting menu.  Everything was very good, but not terribly memorable.

Velocity

Owner / chef of the former Vue in Hudson.  The food was excellent, as was the atmosphere and service.

Thyme

4 November, 2008 | Fine Dining, Italian, Steak / Seafood, Traditional / American | By: Mrs Z

We were very happy to see something in the ‘fine dining’ arena come to this area and were pretty satisfied with our experience.  The menu was unique and interesting and the service was pretty good.  Overall, our entrees were very good, but a couple of the things weren’t heated all the way through.  The server happily […]

Gene’s Place

23 September, 2008 | Family Restaurant, Traditional / American | By: Mrs Z

This was sort of a tired looking place on the inside and you could definitely tell it had been around for many years.  The food, however, was surprisingly good and the menu was very diverse (pages and pages of just about anything you had a taste for).  The service was just “ok” though and we got […]
