Dickey’s Barbecue Pit
There are so many things I COULD say about this place…..but I’ll try to be generous! First, since it’s a chain restaurant; not all locations are likely to provide exactly the same experience. We happened to choose the one that was closest to us which may not be indicative of all of the Dickey’s across the country. We had originally heard about this place on the TV show “On the Menu”, where the winning contestant was to have her particular dish featured on Dickey’s menu (the next day)! We happened to visit Dickey’s several weeks after the show aired and they hadn’t even received the recipe yet!
That wasn’t really a strike against them; but the fact that at 5:15 pm (having opened at 11:00 am) their chicken wasn’t ready yet; nor were there any fries prepared, WAS! Seriously? When you’re basically a fast food joint; not to have two of your main menu items ready several hours after opening didn’t bode well for the way this place was managed. If they had been packed with customers; then it might have been understandable; but we were literally the only ones there and saw no evidence that they had been busy earlier. In any case, the manager was very apologetic but that didn’t do much to ease our annoyance.
To their credit, the pulled pork was good, as was the polish sausage; however both were cold (not lukewarm….cold)! The best thing about Dickie’s was the fact that we could at least get a cold beer with our cold meals!
