Station 43 Tavern

9 December, 2014 | Bar, Pizza, sandwiches / soups / salads | By: Mrs Z

Though we’ve driven past this place many times over the years, we may never have stopped in had we not been in the area for other reasons.  Nothing too fancy, inside or out, but the authentic “firehouse” décor adds some interest to the inside.  The good news is that this small bar/grille had a pretty extensive menu consisting of everything from your typical starters, to ‘lolipop chops’ (mini lamb chops) and though we couldn’t try everything on the menu; what we did have was pretty darned good.  I couldn’t decide between one of their interesting-sounding sandwiches or house-made pizza, so I went in a different direction and ordered a half-dozen garlic wings, which were excellent.  Very meaty and nice and garlicky (just the way I like them).  I started with a house salad which was really good and contained more than just a bunch of iceberg lettuce, a slice of cucumber and a ‘pink’ tomato!  Mr. Z. started with the homemade chicken noodle soup, which he said was delicious, though a little too salty and followed with a Chicken Philly.  He said it was one of the best he’s ever had – full of really good chicken, onions, peppers and lots of cheese!

Our server was friendly and helpful and said that there is nothing on the menu that she wouldn’t recommend (and qualified this by saying that she’s really picky)!  A definite two-thumbs up!
