Grove Hill Restaurant

12 November, 2015 | Bistro, Family Restaurant, Traditional / American | By: Mrs Z

Formerly Raintree Restaurant (since 1972); Grove Hill opened last year in its place and I cannot say enough GOOD things about it.  Though having been to Raintree many times back in the 90s; I honestly can’t remember anything noteworthy.  Grove Hill, on the other hand, will stand out for a long time to come.  Their menu is very diverse and creative and though at a glance, it looks very “farm-to-table”-ish (and in some ways it may be) they have somehow found a way to make healthy, basic eating an event.

I have to admit that I had a difficult time deciding between several interesting-sounding menu items, but ended up choosing the fried oyster sliders (hard to find fried oysters, so I couldn’t resist) and the shaved brussel sprouts!  Both were absolutely outstanding.  Even for those that don’t like brussel sprouts, this dish is so delicious, you wouldn’t have a clue that brussel sprouts were part of it – simply amazing, as were the oyster sliders.  Mr. Z had the roasted half chicken, served with creamy polenta and swiss chard.  Though this may sound boring (I mean, you can get a rotisserie chicken anywhere), he said it was wonderful.  He did substitute green beans for the swiss chard (said those were perfectly done as well).

Some of the reviews we read mentioned that the only negative thing that could be said about Grove Hill was that the service was lacking.  We didn’t find that to be the case on this visit – both the hostess and our server were friendly and very attentive.  I think we will definitely pay Grove Hill another visit!
