Harvest Saloon
YUCK!!!! How does that expression go…… “a rose by any other name is still a rose” (or something like that); well for the past 30 years, this strip center sports bar has been Cleats (TWICE) and most recently, after having been closed for a while, is now Harvest Saloon. In recent years, this particular Cleats had gotten pretty nasty and needed some serious remodeling and upgrading, so the second time around, it had a minor facelift, but the menu was still the same (greasy and unexciting). At some point in the past year it closed and reopened as Harvest Saloon SUPPOSEDLY under new ownership, however the only thing we can see that is different is the fact that the menu has shrunk by at least 75%. Cleats at least had some unique and interesting bar food…..Harvest Saloon – not so much.
Admittedly, I enjoyed my BBQ Chicken salad! Was it worth $11 – absolutely not. No bread, rolls, crackers or anything (I did ask our server if they had ANY bread and she brought me one piece of garlic bread which she CHARGED me $1.00 for). Mr Z made the mistake of ordering the Bourbon Salmon and was very sorry. It looked nothing like any salmon we had ever seen…..very thin and GRAY (isn’t salmon supposed to be on the pink side???). He said it had a distinct sour flavor and after trying to find some edible parts, finally gave up. It was accompanied by coleslaw and fries (the fries were the burnt crumbs from the fryer). When our server returned and saw that he had barely touched his meal, instead of asking if there was a problem, she just asked if we wanted dessert. He didn’t even bother mentioning the salmon, but did point out the fact that the fries were burned and she took $4 off our bill.
Lesson learned – it’s going to take more than a name change for us ever to go back, regardless of the fact that it’s so convenient.
