Larb Thai Restaurant

10 February, 2016 | Asian | By: Mrs Z

After hearing that this place had recently opened in nearby Brunswick (which is sadly lacking in anything except fast-food places); and having some friends rave about it; we figured we’d give it a try.  While we both agreed that it wasn’t “bad”, it’s just not someplace we could get excited about.  We’ve had Thai food in many places and, again, while Larb wasn’t at the bottom of the list, it just lacked pizzazz.  We started with the wonton soup, which had an “odd” flavor – definitely not like Chinese wonton soup, and the chicken potstickers, which didn’t have much flavor at all (very bland without one of the accompanying sauces).  For our entrees, I ordered the Chicken Massaman Curry, which was listed as one of the specials and Mr. Z had the Shrimp Pad Thai.  I have to admit that his was much better than mine.  The curry dish was overly sweet with very little zing to it and the chunks of chicken were so overcooked, they were very dry and hard to chew.  The Pad Thai tasted much fresher and had a pretty good flavor.  We also found it to be very overpriced.

Bottom line – it’s doubtful that we will be going back to Larb.  Another one of those situations where there are far too many REALLY good places to choose from to revisit someplace that didn’t excite us.
