Sapori Italian Grille
Formerly Aroma, this quaint place is tucked back in the corner of a relatively obscure strip center right on Lake Road and if you’re not aware of it, or not from the area, you night not notice it, but since we absolutely and totally loved it; we are hoping to get the word out there!
The current chef / owner, Joe, bought the place back in September of 2013 and by all observations has totally perfected the art of Italian cuisine! We have discovered that when trying an Italian eatery for the first time, one of us absolutely must try a parmesan dish, whether it be chicken, veal or eggplant…the latter would have to be ME. If they can’t do a good parmesan, that is not a good sign. So Mr. Z ordered the veal parmesan and was prepared for the veal to be on the tough side as it is in so many places. To his surprise (and great pleasure) it was fork tender and absolutely delicious and OMG, the portions are huge! I tried the Chicken Marsala and was just blown away. A perfect balance of tender, pounded-thin, chicken with a perfect (not overpowering) Marsala wine sauce with delicate mushrooms! Even the pasta (angel hair), which I typically don’t eat much of, was very good. We had started our meal with an order of Mozzarella Marinara, which is pretty standard in most Italian restaurants, but this was exceptional.
I just can’t say enough about Sapori and I would be remiss if I failed to mention our outstanding server, Danielle!!! She was warm, friendly and beyond attentive; offering suggestions and treating us as though we’d been regulars since they first opened for business. Without a doubt, we WILL become regulars!!
