Twisted – Sushi Grill – Bar

23 April, 2015 | Bistro | By: Mrs Z

Even though the reviews of this relatively new place were somewhat on the negative side; we decided to give it a try anyway.  Ironically, most of the reviews commented on ‘poor service’ and that was the probably the one thing that we found to be outstanding!

Initially we were under the impression that they served strictly sushi, but once we looked at the menu online; were pleased to see that it included quite a few ‘non-sushi’ dishes, some of which sounded really interesting.

The décor is really nice – very art deco and at the time we visited; the place was nearly empty (it WAS still early on a Tuesday).  Though our server wasn’t very knowledgable about the menu items; she was friendly and attentive.  Being the more adventurous of the two; I order the Brenner (you’d have to see to believe) and it was delicious!  Mr. Z, on the other hand, was somewhat reserved in his choice and just went with the Twisted Chicken, which was served with sticky rice (not the potatoes as stated on the menu).  It sounded pretty bland and boring, but COULD have been good (though still pretty bland and boring).  The 2 very large chicken filets were grilled beautifully and would have been excellent except for the fact that they tasted like they had been marinating in salt water for a week!  I’m not nearly as sensitive to overly-salted dishes as Mr. Z is, and even I couldn’t have eaten them.  Our server took them back to the kitchen with the promise of bring back 2 completely new ones (having the chef omit the salt/seasoning).  By the time the new ones finally came back from the kitchen, I was just about done with my meal.  Being hopeful, he took a bite and to his dismay…..the abundance of salt made them inedible.  I too, tried a bite and had to agree.  I might also mention that the ‘sticky rice’ was ice cold.  When we mentioned that to the server, she said “oh yeah, I probably should have told you that it is sushi rice and not warmed at all”….DUH!!!  By now, Mr. Z was annoyed enough to throw in the towel, though the manager did visit our table and offer to bring him something else (he declined and the manager did take his meal off the bill).  Also to the manager’s credit; he mentioned the fact that several other customers (some regulars who had tried the chicken dishes in the past) had commented about the overly-salty chicken and promised to look into it!  For their sake; I sure hope they get that issue resolved soon!

As for us – though the menu was kinda cool; it left a bad taste in Mr. Z’s mouth (no pun intended), so it’s doubtful we’ll be going back.  Maybe you’ll have better luck!!
