Zoup

19 August, 2015 | sandwiches / soups / salads | By: Mrs Z

This was a total departure from our typical Tuesday night adventure; however, it was one of those times when the “decision-maker” wanted something different, close and low-budget!  Well, with Zoup we got 2 out of 3!

Their most recently added location happens to be in the Greens of Strongsville and not really being fast-food patrons; we hadn’t been there (or to any of them for that matter), so this was where we ended up.  Obviously, since it’s soup, salad and sandwiches AND it’s fast-food; they have no liquor license, so……no beer / wine!  Other than that, it was really good; however in our minds – TOTALLY overpriced (that was where they failed in the “low-budget” category).   The positives – they offer 12 different kinds of soup and will let you try any or all before you decide.  I had the lobster bisque and OMG – it was the second best I’ve ever had (second to Mon Ami Winery up in Catawba).  It had tons of huge chunks of real lobster and was absolutely perfect!  However…..it was $6.99 for a bowl and though the bowl was a pretty generous portion, we just felt that was a little pricey for fast food.  Mr. Z had the chicken pot pie soup and said it was wonderful; but again…..$6.49 for a bowl of chicken soup!!!  I can almost understand lobster bisque being on the pricey side, but not chicken soup.  I looked at all of the soup prices and it appeared that for all 12 selections, depending on the size chosen, they were all priced roughly the same or within $.50 of each other.  The dilemma is that while the soup was fantastic, that just seems a little costly for a fast food place.  We also each had a ½ sandwich with our soup and found them to be just okay!  I had the veggie guacamole wrap, which was pretty bland and boring and was somewhere between $3-4.  Mr. Z had what they referred to as the turkey club, but was just a couple of slices of turkey, tomato slice, a slice of bacon and swiss cheese, served hot on French bread.  I would have called it a turkey melt, but…..whatever.  In any case, we felt that $3.50+ for a half sandwich was even more over-priced than the soup (relatively speaking).  Our meal (which included 2 small diet cokes) came to $25.77.  Had it not been for the fact that the soup was delicious and a generous portion; I would have complained there on the spot, but…….it was and I didn’t.

Chances are that we will re-visit Zoup in the future, but at least we’ll know what to expect!
