Bar 145
Encouraged by our son, we just “had to try” Bar 145! This location was relatively new (other locations include Kent, Columbus and Toledo) and when they went, it was late afternoon and pretty empty, but the service was sorely lacking! He was impressed with the menu and the relatively low prices “for the eclectic menu”, so they chalked up the poor service to the time of day (shift change) and the fact that they were just getting this location up and running!
Knowing this, we were prepared for poor service! To the contrary; though they were packed, we were greeted and seated immediately and our server (Natalie) was awesome! It most certainly did live up to expectations! Though the menu isn’t huge, there was something to please everyone; with a concentration on unique and interesting-sounding burgers (there was one called the “Apple Pie Burger”). The “you absolutely have to try…..” dish was an appetizer called “Loaded Poutine Fries”, which consisted of hand-cut fries, poutine veal gravy, pulled duck confit, Tillamook cheddar, and herb roasted bread crumbs! Sounds really ‘out there’ but it was amazing! I didn’t want to tell Mr. Z everything that was in it, lest he make a face and not try it; so I just told him it was fries with pulled pork….he tried it and LOVED it (I later told him all of the ingredients)! In addition, he had the chicken and waffles, which he said was good, but the chicken was a little overcooked. I was stuffed after those fries, so I just had a cup of onion soup and the Wedge. The soup was very good, but the Wedge was just so-so. They describe their bleu cheese dressing as ‘crème de menthe’ blue cheese, so I was expecting something really special and was disappointed. Not only wasn’t it anything extraordinary, it didn’t have much bleu cheese flavor at all.
We did see several burgers being delivered to other tables and they really looked awesome..…..next time!
