Inn Between Bar & Grill
UGH..ok, so maybe it wasn’t all THAT bad, but I have to admit that I was pretty disappointed. In looking at the article below, if you read the descriptions of some of the menu items, together with the pictures, I was expecting to be wowed – not so much though!! The article was right on the money in describing the “ambiance” (or lack of). It was definitely pretty bland, both outside and in. Where the service was concerned, it was actually pretty good, considering the ONLY server in the entire place was the bartender, Sherry, and she did her best to take care of a very busy bar and to attend to our needs. She was really personable and helpful with some of her suggestions, but I have a feeling her opinions were a little skewed.
This happened to be Taco Tuesday, which also featured $2 margaritas – yay, so naturally I had to order one. My excitement was quickly dashed since Sherry either couldn’t find or was out of SALT! Sorry, a margarita without salt doesn’t work for me, so beer it was (strike 1). I guess maybe I shouldn’t have asked too many questions about some of the things I was considering since none of them she had ever had. She was really pushing the tacos though (and what a deal – $1.50 each or 3 for $5). I started with an appetizer order of the sauerkraut balls which were ok, but definitely frozen, as were the potato pancakes that Mr. Z started with (strike 2), but in all fairness, she did tell him the pancakes were. Flavor was ok, but not exciting. Mr. Z ordered a chicken wrap which he said was pretty good, but you can an “ok” chicken wrap just about anywhere. I ended up ordering 2 beef and 1 chicken taco. I asked for the beef in hard shells and the chicken in a soft shell. The chicken was just ok – not much flavor since there was too much chewy soft shell. The beef ones were tasty, but honestly, they tasted like what you would get if you used the Old El Paso taco kit from the grocery. She had asked me if I wanted sour cream and taco sauce and I told her I did. I got one little cup of taco sauce, which was tasty (not much zing though) and no sour cream. Since Mr. Z had some left over from his potato pancakes, I just used the rest of his rather than ask her to bring me some. Turned out that when we got the bill, they had charged $.25 each, times 3 tacos, for sour cream and taco sauce. I told her that I got only 1 taco sauce and no sour cream at all, so she apologized and took it off the bill. Sherry may have been the best thing about our visit.
What had drawn me to this place initially were the many ethnic dishes that looked and sounded so good, so maybe it’s my own fault for not dismissing what she said and just ordering the stuffed cabbage instead of tacos! In any case, as nice as she was, neither of us were terribly impressed by anything about this place and see no reason to go back.
